The job came to the village instead.
In villages thousands of capable women want to work — but a job in the city means a bus fare they can't spare, hours on the road, and leaving children and homes unattended. For most, that isn't a choice they're willing or able to make. So the work stayed undone, and the income stayed out of reach. Surya Sakhi starts from the opposite direction: instead of moving women to a factory, we built the factory into the village, and powered it with something every village already has for free — sunlight.
